College Challenges

When I first entered college I had a different mindset. I thought it was going to be all fun and games, but I quickly found out that it was going to be hard work. I found out that I was actually going to apply myself to my work. One thing I found challenging was actually showing up to class. In high school students are required to attend class, but not in college. Some days I would skip class simply because I could. This was not a life pattern I wanted to be associated with. I found that attending college classes on a regular basis really benefited me. It helped me keep track of assignments and as a result I earned good grades. Sounds crazy, but it’s the truth. If I had to give advice to future college students it would be to always stay on top of homework and assignments. The hardest thing to do in college is to play catch up. A lot of times students have to withdraw from classes because they get so far behind in their assignments. It is so much easier to keep up with all your work because in the end it definitely pays off.

The Many Different Writing Styles

I never really knew how many styles of writing there were before taking English 101. I found it quite interesting to learn about all the different styles of writing there are. One of the most interesting things about writing I learned was Aristotle’s rhetorical syllogism. This caught my attention right away especially because I had never heard of rhetorical syllogism before. Learning about ethos, pathos, and logos was difficult at first but soon came easy after applying them to my essays. I really enjoyed going through reading materials and picking out ethos, pathos, and logos. It was a challenge, but a fun one at the same time. Another style of writing I first found to be difficult, but one that will now stick with me was writing to analyze. This concept was hard for me to understand, until I really grasped the idea of what analyzing something meant. I think that learning about the different styles of writing will definitely help me in my future when writing, especially in English 102. Learning about these styles of writing now has given me a head start for my future writing assignments. I am eager to apply theses styles to future essays or even perhaps when writing a blog.

Things I like to Read

When I was younger I never was very interested in reading. I never had had a strong desire to pick up a book and read it. The only time I would read is when I had to complete a book report or some kind of assignment. To this day I still feel the same about reading. If I had to pick up a piece of material to read it would be a magazine. I like magazines such as People or US Weekly. I have always been interested in watching E news or shows that involve celebrities, so I like to read the magazines that offer the same information and news. These magazines interest me because I like to keep up with the latest celebrity gossip. I know, call me crazy! The most recent magazine I read was a People magazine about Kim Kardashian and all her marital problems. I found it to be quite the drama! When I read these magazines I think to myself how many of these stories are really true and how many are made up. This thought does not stop me from reading these stories though. I always find myself standing in line at the grocery store and picking up one of these magazines off the shelf. I find it makes the time go faster and before I know it, I’m the next customer to cash out!

About Me

Hello, my name is Sarah. I am a student at Arizona Western College majoring in media arts. I have not always had the desire to major in this area, but something has always drawn me to it. I went to beauty school and earned my cosmetology license. I practiced in that field for almost a year and then decided I would like to pursue a career in media arts. I have had the opportunity to take several classes for broadcasting and media arts. My goal is to become an in field reporter for a large news station. I am married to a wonderful man named Cody. We have been married for almost eight months. We have had the opportunity to travel many places together. It has been an exciting eight months! I would like to be able to intern as a student at a news station before graduating to get the feel of how it would be to be a reporter. I have been able to work on and off camera in the TV studion at the college, as well as edit some small projects. In my spare time I like to work out, watch movies and go shopping. An interesting thing about me is that I collect pigs. I have collected them since the second grade and have around two-hundred in total. This is only the beginning to my life. There are many more blogs to come, so stay tuned.
